Use NPC Check-in/Check-out

NPC Check-in/Check-out provides optional document management for files in Project Center. It allows users to add another level of document control using check-in/check-out tasks.

(This feature is not supported in version 12.5.2 and later.)

What kind of integration is require to enable NPC Check-in/Check-out?

        NPC Check-in/Check-out is an EDMS connector, similar to other EDMS connectors.

        NPC Check-in/Check-out is enabled via integration with a customer-provided instance of Apache's EDMS product Subversion.

        Apache provides a no-cost version open-source software for Subversion. Visual SVN is a for fee option available that provides a low cost server option. Visual SVN provides a visual interface for installing and managing a Subversion server. Licensing information is available on the Visual SVN website.

        A Subversion client is required on any PCs accessing the project data. A Subversion account is also required.

Does NPC Check-in/Check-out support permissions?

        Yes. Permissions are controlled via Subversion.

How does NPC Check-in/Check-out versioning work?

        NPC Check-in/Check-out uses a continuous versioning system. Each add or change increments the version change for all documents in the system sequentially. Versions are not tracked on a per document basis.

        Versions are generated automatically by the system and cannot be changed.

Configure NPC Check-in/Check-out

NPC Check-in/Check-out is configured the same way as other EDMS systems. After setting up the Subversion server, Global admins configure the EDMS system using the Configure EDMS Server dialog box, accessed via the Add option on the Project Center Administration Activity Center Global Settings tab.

Following is an example of a Subversion configuration:

 

Check files out and in with NPC Check-in/Check-out

All check-in/check-out actions occur in the Project Files activity center.

To check a file out

1.     Open the project folder that contains the file you want to check out.

2.     Select the file, then select NPC Check-in/Check-out Tasks > Check Out from the File Tasks panel:

3.     The file is checked out, as indicated by a green checkmark next to the file name:

To check a file in

1.     Open the project folder that contains the file you want to check in.

2.     Select the file, then select NPC Check-in/Check-out Tasks > Check In from the File Tasks panel.

3.     Enter comments for the revised file in the Comments field of the Check In Document dialog box:

4.     The new version of the file is uploaded to the system.

What other actions can I perform with NPC Check-in/Check-out?

In addition to checking files in and out, users can also:

        Add files

        Add folders

        Check out and open file

        Undo checkout

        Get latest revision

        Select in workspace
